About the Internship
We are seeking a detail-oriented law student to assist in comprehensive legal and regulatory research on emerging areas at the intersection of financial technology, digital assets, and Indian securities law. This is a remote, unpaid legal research internship focused exclusively on analyzing Indian statutes, regulatory frameworks, and judicial precedents related to blockchain-based financial innovations. The intern will support the founding team by conducting in-depth legal research on cryptocurrency regulations, tokenized assets, and investor protection laws under Indian jurisprudence.Selected intern's day-to-day responsibilities include:
A. Researching Indian securities & crypto regulations:
1. Studying SEBI guidelines, the Finance Act 2022/2023 (crypto taxation provisions), RBI circulars, and other regulatory pronouncements relevant to digital asset platforms and investment structures.
B. Analyzing applicable legal frameworks:
1. Examining how Indian laws, including the Companies Act, 2013; Securities Contracts (Regulation) Act, 1956 (SCRA); Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA); and Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), apply to blockchain-based ownership and smart contracts.
C. Summarizing legal precedents & regulatory trends:
1. Tracking key court decisions, parliamentary committee reports, and government statements (e.g., RBI's stance on crypto, taxation policies) that shape the legal environment for digital assets in India.
D. Evaluating international legal models:
1. Conducting comparative legal research on how foreign jurisdictions regulate tokenized real estate and digital securities.
2. Assessing the feasibility of adapting such models within the Indian legal system.
E. Supporting development of compliance guidelines:
1. Assisting in identifying legal requirements for investors' onboarding, including KYC/AML obligations under PMLA.
2. Reviewing eligibility criteria (accredited vs. retail investors) under SEBI regulations.
F. Maintaining organized research documentation:
1. Compiling findings into structured summaries, legal memos, or reports using Google Docs/Notion for internal use by legal and strategy teams.
G. Monitoring ongoing fintech & regulatory developments:
1. Staying updated on policy changes from SEBI, MeitY, the Ministry of Finance, and industry bodies (e.g., NASSCOM, Web3 Foundation India) concerning digital assets and fintech innovation.
H. Collaborating with founders:
1. Presenting research insights during weekly discussions.
2. Helping formulate questions for consultations with external legal advisors.
