SSC Stenographer Recruitment 2024
The applications for SSC stenographer Recruitment 2024 can be submitted online from 26th July to 24th August 2024. Vacancy details will be announced once the official notification is released on 16th July, 2024.
SSC Stenographer Selection Process
The selection process for SSC Stenographer Recruitment 2024 is as follows:
- Computer Based Test
- Skill Test
The important points of the SSC Stenographer Exam Selection Process are:
- Candidates will be shortlisted for skill test on the basis of their marks in Computer Based Test.
- Skill Test will be conducted by the board and it will be qualifying in nature. Candidates must note that skill test is mandatory and those who do not appear in the skill test will not be considered for the final selection.
- Final selection along with allocation to different Ministries/Departments under SSC Stenographer Recruitment will be done on the basis of CBT and the preference of Post/ Department mentioned by the candidate.
SSC Stenographer Eligibility

- 12th pass or equivalent from recognized Board/University.
- Age limit for SSC Stenographer Grade C is 18 to 30 years and for SSC Stenographer Grade D is 18 to 27 years.
SSC Stenographer Exam Pattern
As discussed above, the selection process contains two stages which are online computer based test and skill test. So, let’s discuss the exam pattern for both stages of the selection process in detail.
SSC Stenographer Computer-Based Test Exam Pattern
The Computer based test will contain Multiple choice questions. Below is the detailed SSC Stenographer Exam Pattern for CBT. Also, note that for candidates eligible for a scribe, the total duration will be 2 hours 40 minutes.
SSC Stenographer Marking Scheme (CBT)
- Each question will be of 1 mark. A total of 200 questions will be asked for 200 marks.
- There will be a negative marking of 0.25 marks for each wrong answer.
- For all those questions that will remain unattempted will be awarded as 0 marks.
- The questions will be Bilingual (Hindi & English Both) except in the English section.
Stage 2: Skill Test in Stenography
Here is the pattern of SSC Stenographer Recruitment Skill test in stenography.
- One dictation for 10 minutes in English or Hindi (as opted by the candidate in the Application Form) at the speed of 100 w.p.m. for the post of Stenographer Grade C and 80 w.p.m. for the post of Stenographer Grade D.
- Candidates who opt to take the SSC Stenography Skill Test in Hindi will have to learn English Stenography and vice versa after their appointment, otherwise their probation may not be cleared by the appointing department.

SSC Stenographer Roles and Responsibilities
SSC Stenographers are the backbone of the Indian Central Government’s various ministries and departments. Their work can be broadly divided into three categories:
1. Speech Writing and Documentation:
- Recording and transcribing speeches of senior officers during meetings, conferences and other events.
- Preparing drafts and final versions of speeches from the recordings.
- Keeping a record of these speeches for future reference.
2. Supporting Press Conferences and Public Relations:
- Attending press conferences with ministers and officers.
- Taking notes of the proceedings and key points discussed.
- Summarizing the information gathered to prepare press releases and other communication materials.
- Helping the PRO in disseminating information about government policies and initiatives.
3. General Support:
- Assisting ministers and senior officers in their day to day work which may include scheduling appointments, correspondence and travel.
