IIT Madras (IITM) Highlights
IIT Madras is one of the finest engineering institutes in Chennai (formerly Madras). Founded in 1959, with assistance from the German Government, IITM is 3rd among the twenty-three IITs. The Government of India recognized it as an Institute of National Importance. Spread across 630 acres, the IIT Madras campus was once a part of the Guindy National Park. The NIRF ranking of IIT Madras is at 1st position in the Engineering Category. It has 550 faculties, 8,000 students, and 1,250 administrative and supporting staff. The institute has signed (MoUs) with foreign universities, facilitating student exchange programs. Under these agreements, students pursuing Undergraduate (UG), Postgraduate (PG), and Dual Degree programs spend a semester abroad, gaining invaluable exposure. Furthermore, IIT Madras collaborates with 17 foreign universities for Joint Doctoral Programs (JDPs) and offers an AICTE-sponsored Quality Improvement Program (QIP).

IIT Madras has 16 departments, 14 research centers, and a Continuing Education Programs Centre (CEP). These departments offer more than 121 UG, PG, and Doctoral courses in Engineering, Science, Humanities, and Management. For IITM B.Tech Admission, candidates must qualify for the JEE Advanced exam. Additionally, the IIT Madras Placements 2024 Phase 1 have been concluded with 55% of students placed. The Median Package during the placements was Rs. 19 LPA. According to the media reports, the IITM has claimed that the has been an increment of 19% reported in internships and PG placement offers from the Core sector. In 2023, the institute received 1612 offers with the highest package of Rs. 1.31 Crores. Around 80% of the total registered students were placed. Top recruiting companies such as Microsoft, Goldman Sachs, and McKinsey & Company took part in the placement drive.

IIT Madras (IITM) Admission
IIT Madras Admission for courses like B.Tech is based on JEE Advanced. Candidates who clear the JEE Advanced are eligible for admission to the B.Tech, B.Tech+M.Tech (Dual Degree), and Integrated programs at IIT Madras. For PG programs, Candidates need to clear the GATE exam to be eligible for admission to M.Tech, MA, MS (by Research), and Ph.D. programs at IIT Madras. The IITM M.Sc course requires an IIT JAM score and for MBA and EMBA courses candidates must qualify for the CAT exam with a valid cutoff score.
Candidates must score the qualifying cutoff ranks in the respective exams to get admitted to the college. Previously, the IIT Madras JEE Advanced 2023 cutoff for the B.Tech was 106- 10060. Similarly, the GATE 2023 cutoff for the M.tech course was from 367-787.

IIT Madras Admission 2024-25: How to Apply
- Apply for JEE Main at the registration portal.
- Candidates having a valid JEE Main score should appear for the JEE Advanced.
- As per the JEE Advanced Cutoff, candidates need to apply for JoSAA Counseling and apply for IIT Madras.
- Choose the desired course while applying for the IITM.
- Freeze the seat, during the counseling and pay the initial fees.

IIT Madras (IITM) Cutoff
The JoSAA is expected to release the IIT Madras BTech Cutoff 2023 soon. Admissions to the BTech program will be granted based on the cutoff marks for the respective specialization, which will be influenced by various factors such as the rank secured in the JEE Advanced examination, availability of seats, choice filling, reservation criteria, etc. Below is a table indicating the expected JEE Advanced cutoff 2023 for general category candidates based on the JoSAA 2022 round 1 and round 6 closing ranks
IIT Madras (IITM) Placement
The Phase 1 of the IIT Madras Placements 2024 has been concluded. According to the media reports, the institute has successfully placed 55% of the students. The students were especially from the socially and economically challenged class. IIT Madras stated, “There has been an increment of 19% in the internship offers and recruitment from the Core sector, as well as in the international offers for PG students, compared to last year.” The Median Package offered during the placement was Rs. 19 LPA. Top recruiting companies such as Microsoft, JP Morgan, McKinsey & Company, Goldman Sachs, etc. took part in this campus placement drive.

IIT Madras (IITM) Scholarships
Institute Merit-cum-Means Scholarship: This scholarship is given to those students whose parents’ income is less than 4,50,000 per annum. The benefit of this scholarship is an exemption of 67% tuition fee.
Institute National Prize: This scholarship is given to students based on JEE rank and whose parents’ income is less than 4,50,000 per annum. The benefit of this scholarship is a one-time grant of Rs. 1000.
Indian Women’s Association at Bonn Scholarship: This scholarship is given to students based on JEE rank and whose parents’ income is less than 5 lakhs per annum. One B.Tech student will be given Rs. 1250 per month for 12 months only.
